Our Story

The winemaking heritage of the NSW South Coast dates back to the mid-1800s when Alexander Berry first planted grapes on the foothills of Mt. Coolangatta. More than a century later, in the 1980s, Greg Bishop saw the potential to revive this historic site. Recognising the Shoalhaven’s maritime climate as ideal for premium grape growing, he established a vineyard of Sauvignon Blanc on the eastern slopes of Mt. Coolangatta.

Today, Coolangatta Estate nurtures 25 acres of vineyards, cultivating 10 different grape varieties. All fruit is carefully hand-picked to ensure exceptional quality.

Coolangatta Estate made history with the ’91 Alexander Berry Chardonnay, the first premium wine from the Shoalhaven, which won a Gold Medal at the ’97 National Wine Show of Australia.

Over the past 30 years, Coolangatta Estate has been recognised with more than 2,200 wine awards and 210 trophies across International, National, and Regional wine shows. It remains the South Coast’s most-awarded winery, celebrated for its commitment to quality, tradition, and excellence.
